birthday overseas

My first birthday overseas could have been really lonely. What is usually a family dinner became a box of very very good Chinese instant/canned food. (But it costs more than the dinner we had last year. The irony!)
My flatmates have all gone out to the Freshers' ball which is probably a 18-pound night of drunken revelry.
But my Singaporean friends filled the night with cheery convos, a lot of food, fun and laughter. It's the Singapore society, so it's all healthy fun, no drunkenness at all. People drink alcohol. We drink coke (not cocaine).
My batchmates even bought me a cake and a card, though we have only really known each other in the past two and a half weeks. It feels really great to have friends around, to have people who go out of the way to remember and celebrate it for you. Thanks to everyone, especially Weixi and Jiawei.

And to my buddy En, happy birthday! Enjoy the food and sun! And we will have island creamery two months later. =)
