Power is central to human societal organisations. Yet it makes friends out of enemies and enemies out of friends. Private agendas abound. It is shocking to see normally nice people turn aggressive, but it hurts even more if you become the victim of your friend's attack. It appears ungrateful, when well-intentioned actions become interpreted/miscontrued as ulterior motivations. I feel for the victim because this is not how it should be. But on the other hand, the powers-that-be certainly influence the powers-that-will-be, and more often than not, it feels like a self-sustaining elite.
Power also need not accrue to the most capable and deserving. The democratic system is after all a popularity, even demagogic, race. It does not matter what you say, rather, how you say it matters more. I yearn for substance, sorely lacking in a lot of the social groups/classes I attend. Words can be empty, purely decorative, to take up space and time. Perhaps it is important to learn some of these social skills, or Darwinian evolution predicts your extinction from the arena.
Perhaps I am being naive. Others can reflect on these points rather matter-of-factly, without a tinge of pain or feeling of betrayal. And there are some things I would rather not find out.
Do not judge, and learn to let go.
